Curator Baldwin Library of Historical Children's Literature
Our poster introduces new directions for the Diverse BookFinder, named a 2021 Best Digital Tool by the American Association of School Librarians. Supported by a second Institute of Museum and Library Services grant, the DBF has entered a new phase of work that codes not only diverse picture books but also early readers, middle grade and young adult works, and graphic novels.
Our poster explains how we code for this expanded range of books featuring BIPOC characters, how our coding evolved to encompass works for older readers, and how our resources can be used by librarians and patrons. Through its unique coding, the DBF’s work impacts a wide variety of library and information professionals who work with children and young adults and/or children’s and young adult literature, as well as those working in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion, metadata, and reader’s advisory.
