Reference and Instruction Librarian
Penn State University Libraries
Lori Lysiak is a Reference and Instruction Librarian and the Open Educational Resources (OER) Liaison at Penn State Altoona. As an OER Liaison, Lori consults and collaborates with faculty and students to integrate open and affordable educational resources into the classroom. Over the course of several semesters, she consulted with faculty on the availability of e-books for required course materials, resulting in $38,000+ in savings over print materials by the end of 2022. Lori designed an OER electronic guide to assist faculty, and she published “Division by division, book by book: Using licensed e-books as a gateway to OERs” in the March 2022 issue of C&RL News. Lori earned her Certificate in OER Librarianship from the Open Education Network in September 2022 and was selected as a member of the 2023 cohort of Penn State’s OER Leads Adoption Grant program. She also serves as the founder and advisor to the newly formed OER Student Advocacy organization at Altoona.
