Teaching & Learning Librarian University of North Carolina at Wilmington
This poster will focus on helping librarians in rethinking our practices, promoting inclusion and belonging, and create equitable outcomes for every reader and learner by encouraging the inclusion of Coretta Scott King Book Awards Round Table (CSKBART) winners and honors in collections and programming. Librarians will learn about the barriers of a non-inclusive, diversity lacking, and inequitable collection.
Examples of successful programs facilitated by the presenter in school and public libraries, diversity audit resources, and examples for community outreach/collaboration will be provided in order to help attendees increase patron readership and patron exposure to CSK titles. Increase your circulation statistics, program attendance, as well as outreach collaboration, and show the impact of the increase in CSK titles and programming when their added in either school or public library settings.
Upon completion, the participants will have immediate applicable skills to organize and develop their collections to lead and affect change in their communities through introducing and honoring diverse voices and experiences. Through this program, participants will have actionable ideas, suggestions and book lists of CSK award winners/honors to create engaging programming and inclusive instruction which will bring broader understanding to honor diverse experiences.
