Dean of Learning Commons Trinity River Campus Tarrant County College
The Learning Commons of Tarrant County College has over 300 staff members including 5 campus libraries with over 100 staff spread across our service area. To manage this large team, we have implemented a Performance Team model in which we have grouped our staff into 14 teams who focus on the vital work of our division. These teams allow staff members to share ideas, complete special projects, and communicate with the college's upper administration. In this poster, we will share our Performance Team structure, how it works within TCC, and the benefits and challenges of this approach. While there are library specific teams, this structure allows library staff to participate and share their expertise across teams giving them more opportunities for growth and voice. Looking towards the near future, we envision this structure funneling research instruction and other library-specific services to other areas of the learning commons just as they liaise to specific academic programs and departments now. The audience will learn about a team model that is an effective way of exercising communicative governance across a large Learning Center while additionally completing discipline-specific tasks. The audience will also learn about the benefits and challenges of this approach.
