In the Librarian network of Arkansas, there is a new curse word -- SB 81. "SB81 - TO AMEND THE LAW CONCERNING LIBRARIES AND OBSCENE MATERIALS; TO CREATE THE OFFENSE OF FURNISHING A HARMFUL ITEM TO A MINOR; AND TO AMEND THE LAW CONCERNING OBSCENE MATERIALS LOANED BY A LIBRARY." - AR State Legislature, 94 General Assembly.
Many libraries nationwide are being attacked for "obscene" material or programming. In Arkansas, libraries are being threatened with a bill that could possibly end up with jail time. Even though it would be a flex to get arrested in the name of Freedom of Information, we do not have control over who can access what information. This poster will explain how libraries are coming together to defend our content in collections across the state. We will explore avenues librarians are creating to peacefully protest against this bill and attempt to get an inside scope of what opinions our State Representatives have to say about this situation.
