The poster presented will detail a successful collaboration with our local school district which involved giving parents/guardians of middle school and high school students the ability to opt-in for a public library card during the student registration process at school. The poster will review how our library system worked with the district to create patron records, as well as what measures were put in place to protect patron privacy during the opt-in and patron record creation. The poster will describe the benefits to the student cards and lessons that have been learned along the way during this project. Statistics related to student library card usage will be shared and what improvements will be made to the project and process going forward. Key takeaways from the poster will include a replicable process for public libraries so that they may create student cards that allow students access to digital and physical materials on a system wide scale.
