LIBRARY SERVICES CONSULTANT/STORYTELLER
Award winning storyteller, Binnie Tate Wilkin, resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition to writing and professional storytelling, she currently serves as a Library Services Consultant. In 2022, she was keynote speaker at the California Librarians Black Caucus’ Celebration: and was featured speaker for SJSU School of Information’s Webinar about Juneteenth.
Her keynote speech on Looking Back at Civil Rights and Libraries was given at the virtual conference of the California Library Association, May 2021, In December of 2020, she completed a project for the Neon Museum of Las Vegas used with elementary school children, The ALA Office of Diversity pubished her article titled, "A Time of Reckoning, Juneteenth 2020". Ms. Wilkin received the National Storytelling Network”s Western Region Oracle Award in 2021. Binnie was inducted in the California Library Hall of Fame in 2019.
Ms.Wilkin published "Survival Themes in Fiction for Children and Young People" in 1994. Her most recent publications are "African American Librarians in the Far West: Pioneers and Trailblazers", Scarecrow Press, July, 2006 "; "African and American Images in Newbery Award Winning Titles, Progress in Portrayals ", August, 2009; and "A Life in Storytelling",2014 were published by Rowman and Littlefield.
