Librarian / Public Technology Services
San Diego Public Library
Karen Nguyen (she/her/hers) is a Public Technology Services (PTS) Librarian at San Diego Public Library. The mission of PTS is to connect patrons to library services through technology. This mission is realized primarily through the library's IDEA Lab, which is comprised of a makerspace, digital media space, and digital memory lab. Ms. Nguyen is a maker at heart and is thrilled to be among the inaugural 2023 Library Makers Ambassadors (https://www.librarymakers.org/). Additionally, Ms. Nguyen has proudly served on the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA) Picture Book Award committee twice, once as a member and then as committee chair. She is a strong proponent of the idea that books are "windows, mirrors, and sliding doors" as coined by Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop and believes this mantra could be applied beyond the page and carry over to programs and services.
