Branch Supervisor
Springfield City Public Library
My name is Haydee C. Hodis working as the Brightwood Branch Supervisor/Children's Librarian of the Springfield City Library, Massachussetts. What started as a one year try out job it became a committment that spanned over four decades working through various roles that allowed me to grow, learn and develop professionally while using my bilingual skills in the English and Spanish languages.
It fulfilled many of my goals and aspirations by creating programs and services for the Spanish-speaking community in need of overcoming their language barrier. It became paramount to develop special collections for school age children, their families and community. By attending book fairs in Mexico and Spain I was able to acquire relevant materials in print and digital form.
Through my memberships with REFORMA, ALA and the International Round Table I got the opportunity to present at conferences nationally and internationally. In 2014 at the IFLA Congress in Lyon, France and in 2019 at the ALA Annual Conference in Washington DC.
As an advocator of Reading and Literacy In 2006 I was nominated for the Massachussetts State Literacy Champion. In 2012 I received the Pura Belpre Award as the Librarian of the Year Award. Both special honors.
