Outreach Librarian

Chanda Briggs is the Outreach Librarian at the University of San Francisco's Gleeson Library | Geschke Center. She is also intruction and liaison librarian whose purview encompasses English, Visual and Performing Arts, Languages, Literatures, Classics and Graduate Museum Studies.
Prior to becoming a librarian, Chanda was the Community Programs manager at NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and worked for Rand Corp on the MICUNAY project (Motivational Interviewing and Culture for Urban Native American Youth).
She was a first generation and nontraditional student who attended Santa Monica Community College (AA, Anthropology), UCLA (BA, Cultural Anthropology, Scandinavian Studies Minor), The University of Oslo (International Summer School) and Syracuse University (MLIS).
A multi-racial, agricultural and working class background hailing from the midwest and the south is the bedrock of Chanda's approach to librarianship and service. Throughout her storied journey Chanda has held many roles: business manager, performing artist, community organizer and thespian, to name a few. She believes in the power of community empowerment and solidarity and the unique positionality of libraries to create them.
