Ashley Rayner is a Librarian II at NORC at the University of Chicago. She has worked in every type of library, worked with every type of patron, and prides herself on making strong connections. Ashley graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign's School of Information Sciences in 2011. She worked at the Chicago Public Library as a Cybernavigator, aiding patrons with technology. She also worked as a librarian at Northwestern College, a for-profit school on the Northwest Side of Chicago. In 2014 she started working as a Librarian I at the Harold Washington Library Center. After three years she was promoted to Branch Manager at the Greater Grand Crossing branch on the South Side. Ashley worked with community members, local schools, and many patrons to make the branch a welcoming place for all. In 2021 she left the Chicago Public Library to join NORC at the University of Chicago. She assists with social science research, develops and guides the acquisitions for the library, and provides training for new and existing staff members. In her spare time, Ashley enjoys hanging out with her husband and two children, playing video games, singing karaoke, cooking and eating, and of course, reading.
