Monique Christian-Long is the Assistant Director of Administrative Services and Diversity Officer for Southern Methodist University Libraries. In this role, she oversees hiring, professional development, and organizational development. She received her MLS from North Carolina Central University where she specialized in archives and records management and she is currently a doctoral student at SMU studying Higher Education. The majority of her professional experience is in public libraries. She served the Dallas Public Library for nearly 7 years and the Cleveland Public Library for 3 Years. Her work focuses on initiatives that promote equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility with a demonstrated passion for the communities being served. Such initiatives have strengthened partnerships with local organizations and fostered meaningful relationships between the community and the library staff. She was awarded as an ALA Spectrum Scholar in 2020 and as an ALA Emerging Leader in the 2022 cohort. She is currently serving on the Spectrum Advisory Committee and looking forward to continuing her contributions to the Library and Information Science Field.
