Ed Garcia is the Library Director at the Cranston Public Library in Cranston, RI, a position he has held since 2012. Ed is a proud graduate of the University of Rhode Island and received his MLIS in 2008. Ed has served 3 terms as an ALA Councilor-at-Large as well as a 3-year term on the ALA Executive Board. He was also an ALA Presidential Candidate in 2021. Ed has been a member of the Rhode Island Library Association since 2008 and currently serves as both RILA Legislative Action Chair and Rhode Island Chapter Councilor.
Under his leadership, the Cranston Public Library was awarded the 2016 LibraryAware Community Award and the 2020 Jerry Kline Community Impact Prize of $250,000. Ed was both an ALA Emerging Leader and Library Journal Mover & Shaker in 2010 and was awarded the Emerson Greenaway Award for distinguished service to librarianship by the New England Library Association in 2021.
Ed is the current Chair of the ALA Committee on Legislation.
