Manager of Popular Library
Chicago Public Library
Young Park is manager of Popular Library at the Chicago Public Library. Young has served the Albany Park community, one of the most diverse area in the United States, with public schools speaking 51 languages, and has provided programs and services as an adult services librarian for 17 years. Young also co-chairs the Asian American and Pacific Islander Cultural Committee in CPL. The committee provides Asian culture and social programs to CPL's 81 branches to broaden staff' and patrons' understanding of different cultures and systems during AAPIHM and throughout the year.
A first-generation immigrant woman from Korea, Young supports CPL’s mission to ensure that all users, regardless of their native language, have access to public library resources and services and opportunities for social engagement. Young also believes that public libraries can become places where social organizations and government agencies meet immigrants, refugees and New Americans in need by providing physical spaces and introducing services.
Young was invited to present her knowledge and experience working with neighboring organizations to help immigrants and refugees in many sessions, including PLA Leadership Training and ILA Poster Session.
