Refuge & Immigrant Services & Empowerment Outreach Manager
Kansas City Public Library
Julie Robinson is the Refugee & Immigrant Services & Empowerment (RISE) Outreach Manager for the Kansas City, Missouri Public Library. She created the position drawing on her 11 years of experience with immigrant communities as the manager of KCPL’s Irene H. Ruiz Biblioteca de las Americas branch. She continues to develop the Library’s services and outreach including citizenship and English language learning classes and hosting naturalization ceremonies at the Library.
During the past eight years, she has gained a tremendous amount of respect and awe of the tenacity of refugees and immigrants in leaving their home countries and relocating to a new environment. While having learned a lot about the relocation process and the causes and conditions leading to relocation, she acknowledges that there is so much more to learn.
Julie has frequently been asked to speak about starting a library division devoted to working with refugees and immigrants. Her expertise has allowed her to speak nationally and internationally about refugees and immigrants. Julie currently sits on the following committees – Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice, Serving Refugees, Immigrants and Displaced Persons and the Public and Cultural Programs Advisory Committee.
