As any caregiver knows, changing a baby in a public restroom can be a challenge, even with changing tables available. Can you imagine trying to change an older child or an adult with no access to adult-sized changing tables? Many families face this reality on a regular basis, and oftentimes it means that they avoid spending longer periods of time in public places -- or they end up using a public restroom floor to tend to their loved one.
All library patrons deserve the dignity of a restroom that is accessible to their needs. This poster session will describe, through provided visuals and conversation points, how the North Canton Public Library (OH) made a modified adult changing table available in their space-constrained building. Library Director Andrea Legg will share the Library's experience in acquiring this essential piece of equipment, as well as important insight she gained along the way from local and national advocates. Attendees will walk away with a greater understanding of the challenges that some of our patrons and their caregivers face and the different routes we can explore to accommodate them.
