With the ever-increasing dialog about library seating, collections are often on the move out of the library and to offsite storage. Clemson University Libraries Government Document collection was slated to move by the end of Spring Semester 2023. Michelle Colquitt, the newly appointed Continuing Resources & Government Information Management Librarian, was approached by the Libraries administration shortly after being hired with the mandate to lead the charge on moving the documents collection. What happens when someone, not a project manager, has to focus quickly on learning project management skills? This poster will present strategies for learning about project management, emphasizing utilizing the growth mindset.
But wait, there’s more! During Winter Break 2022, Clemson University’s Robert M. Cooper Library suffered a flood resulting from the failure of the HVAC system and a burst pipe. This burst pipe flooded four out of six of Cooper Library’s floors. Due to the age of this building and the remediation of asbestos, the Government Documents collection move timeline was dramatically bumped up. What are librarians supposed to do when the best-laid collection move plans are swept away in a flood? This poster will additionally address the impact of a disaster on a collection move and how this impacted the morale of seasoned staff members with over twenty-five years of experience each.
