Making VR a Reality | Using VR to Enhance Community College Library Collaboration showcases one way to implement a virtual reality program at a small NC community college to enhance a variety of courses. Physical education, anatomy/physiology, nursing, chemistry, phlebotomy, history, and math courses will be highlighted including numbers of students and classes served.
Data will be shared from 2020-2023 where Meta Quest 2 VR headsets were utilized. Ways of structuring a virtual reality program, tips and tricks for implementation learned from successes and failures, and popular applications will be shared in both graphical and picture format. Practical examples/ways to market a program and build instructor buy-in will be shared in an effort to showcase how implementation can occur even at a basic or introductory level.
Community college librarians are uniquely poised to impact a population of diverse learners ranging from dually-enrolled high school students or Early College students, to continuing education or second-career learners. VR is a chance to enhance collaborative opportunities that exist for librarians; VR collaboration and implementation is possible even with a small budget and staff.
