The San Diego State University Library has initiated several binational partnerships with cultural institutions in Mexico. The university’s proximity to the international border and designation as an Hispanic-Serving Institution make SDSU particularly well suited for cross border collaborations. The Mexican institutions, located in Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca; Tijuana, Baja California; and Villa de Álvarez, Colima, hope the partnerships with the SDSU Library will help to increase accessibility and raise awareness of their collections. SDSU hopes that by assisting with digitization and description we will help provide wider access to primary source materials, including materials in indigenous languages as well as photographs, maps and land use and ownership information. Work is currently underway in two archives and discussions about a third and fourth collaboration are ongoing. The poster presents an up-to-date look at the projects, what has been accomplished, what is yet to be done, and the challenges and opportunities of international collaborations.
